Milton Keynes to lead the way

Baroness Kramer, the UK’s Minister of State for Transport, officially launched an all-electric bus route that will test whether electric buses can perform on a par with their diesel counterparts in a real-world operational environment.

The buses will run for five years in a carefully monitored demonstration programme, which will objectively assess their technical and commercial viability.

The trial has been planned and will be managed by Mitsui-Arup joint venture MBK Arup Sustainable Projects (MASP).

Today, the details of MBK Arup Sustainable Projects’ (MASP) first project were agreed. The project will use an innovative approach to charging electric buses to enable the quieter, cleaner future of public transport in Milton Keynes.

Seven organisations, led by a subsidiary of Mitsui & Co Europe (“Mitsui”), have signed a five-year collaboration agreement committing to the replacement of diesel buses with their all-electric counterparts on one of the main bus routes in the city by summer 2013.
